The
Potential of Potentials
We
have been hearing a great deal lately from Adamus about
“potentials.” Tobias also had much to say
about this topic. In my mind, whenever I hear this word
it evokes almost an instantaneous response in me, which
is “now, just what are we talking about here anyway?”
Part of this response I must admit is my endlessly curious
brain, while another part I’m certain is that
the word evokes a deep resonance within my soul: a knowing
or gnost of it that thankfully bypasses the part of
me that a fellow traveler once referred to as my “stinkin’
thinkin’.” I assure you that the battle
to bring my heart, soul and mind into some semblance
of balance rages ever onward.
My
intent here with this brief article is once again to
hopefully, provide you with some valuable, usable insights
into the meaning, significance and possibly energy (whatever
THAT is, but we won’t get too deeply into that
here) behind this very important term. Along those lines
I will share my sense and feelings about what potential
is and maybe, you will at some point experience a personal,
“aha” moment – another means perhaps
of describing a soul-expansion.
My
first experiences with the term ‘potential’
were in my school-age years. I distinctly remember my
mom coming home from the bi-annual parent-teacher conferences
and letting me know “your teacher told me you
have such great potential, if only you would stop socializing
with your neighbors and do a little school work.”
Hmmm, let’s see … socializing … work
… socializing … work. What would you do?
;-) I’m sure many of you had a similar experience.
Clearly it was much more interesting experience-wise
to act out my undiagnosed attention deficit disorder
than to bore myself with memorizing the multiplication
tables! “Let’s see, what can I do to disrupt
class today?”
But
certainly there was something to the teacher’s
report to my mom regarding my nascent potential. We
have all heard someone say about another “shame,
he never reached his full potential.” We recognize
that there is a field within us – a store
if you will, that is accessible and tap-able. All we
need do is journey inward, bringing with us the “key”
to the store. Once we reach our destination, we may
unlock the lock, then “tap into” this potential
in order to utilize/create/manifest with its “substance.”
I
believe that although potential is something that does
not exist in the same sense that ordinary matter or
manifest energy does, it nonetheless should not be mistakenly
assumed that it is not part of, or of practical, utilitarian
importance in our four-dimensional human lives. I have
a sense that many of us are not yet aware of this store
within us. Without a fuller awareness of the nature
of this store we risk leaving much of it untapped.
My
first “technical” encounters with ‘potential’
came when I studied physics as an undergraduate. The
word potential in the sense of physics is tied to the
word energy as in “potential energy.” This
is energy that happens to be stored within a particular
physical system. For example, the higher an object is
off the ground, the larger its so-called gravitational
potential energy. One must act against the force of
gravity by lifting the object, and by doing so more
and more potential energy is imparted the higher one
lifts said object. Many other examples from physics
abound, such as mechanical potential energy stored within
a coiled spring waiting to be released, and electromagnetic
potential energy of a charged particle within a magnetic
field.
These
potentials it should be noted, although seemingly not
acting in any particular manner (they do not “express
themselves”), are indeed very real. Stored up
energy is like money invested in stocks or in a money
market account – it has the potential (no pun
intended) to be converted into other forms such as the
purchase of material goods. But as in the case of the
teacher who notes a student’s potential –
if this storehouse is never tapped, never utilized,
then one may argue that on its own, potential is meaningless.
If one cannot remember where they “stashed their
cash”, well, it’s not too useful.
So
potential is a wonderful, very real thing. If one is
aware of their potential and holds the “key”
to unlocking the “closet” in which it is
stored (all of us do hold that key), and then is able
to correctly use that key – this may be said to
constitute “the trick” of living well, if
you will.
New
Energy then clearly must be a form of potential. This
New Energy is being stored up now for us and it is being
made available to each and every one of us who is or
becomes aware of its presence. This New Energy I submit
is not new in the sense of new versus old. Its basis
is not dualistic, but unitary. New Energy is perennial
– beyond time and space, or even notions of dimensionality.
It must of necessity be closely aligned with Spirit
because Spirit is of unbounded potential, of unbounded
energy and of in-finite information - a fact impossible
to grasp by the human intellect while knowable by the
heart and soul.
A
primary name of Spirit in the mystical tradition of
Kabbalah is the Hebrew phrase Ain Soph –
which translates simply to “without bound.”
No limitation whatsoever. It stands to simple logical
reasoning that since our connection with Spirit is intrinsic,
fundamental and inseparable, that the aspects of potential
that reside within Spirit are in like kind intrinsic
to all humans. And because we are one with Spirit (notwithstanding
that most of us must constantly remind ourselves of
this) then that infinite potential must be fairly readily
accessible to us, since it IS (of) us.
The
ancient wisdom masters of Kabbalah (including both Tobias
and Adamus) specifically referred to this potential
as Ain Soph Ohr – the boundless, purest
Light that emanates from Source. It is, simply put –
infinite, available abundance – abundance that
infuses every nook and cranny of creation. The physicists
have almost grasped it now – they refer to it
as zero-point energy or vacuum flux energy – and
the race continues to find the keys to releasing it
from the space-time continuum in which it is currently
locked, and manifesting it.
This
New Energy potential is different from the potential
I described above regarding the Newtonian physics realm
because the latter is considered finite and conserved.
Finite, meaning that there is only so much of it available
in the physical universe. Conserved refers to the so-called
law of conservation of energy that holds that energy
is neither created nor destroyed. It is only transmuted
from one form of the stuff to another. For example,
when the apple fell from the tree and plopped on the
great mystic Isaac Newton’s head (this happened
in an alternate universe!) the gravitational potential
energy stored in the apple was converted to kinetic
energy of motion in more-or-less equal amount.
But
the difference between New Energy potential and physics
potential is small if not nil. That is because New Energy
is not separate from the physical universe we live in!
New Energy is “installed” throughout all
of creation, waiting and ready for us to use it. And
even though physical potential/energy is recognized
as finite in the universe, there is a vast store of
it. We now recognize that only about 4 percent of this
vastness is “visible”, the rest “dark”
(both energy and matter).
Isn’t
it interesting that, as in the case of Newton’s
apple, just a simple release, a letting go, sets in
motion this utilization-transformation of potential
energy into manifest energy. A release, rather than
a grasping for and holding onto, accesses the store
– something for us to ponder in our hearts.
Much
of humanity’s angst and pain in so many areas
results from the choice to hold onto things that Tobias
reminded us, do not matter. The more we recognize and
take to heart the notion that “it doesn’t
matter” the more it seems we are able to tap into
the deep store of potential within ourselves. I can
think of many examples of this, but one that is personal
for me is progressively letting go of our children,
not holding on to them past the time that we must, for
their sake and ours. How can they “reach their
potential” if we refuse to let them go? And of
course we have all heard that the only way to truly
“have” something is to let it go.
I
don’t profess to have any particular answer to
the riddle that letting go (of our children, our loved
ones, our possessions, our careers, our very lives)
is, at the same time both quite easy and pretty difficult.
But I am certain that as we consciously endeavor toward
the Ain Soph Ohr – the Light emanated
of Spirit, as we open ourselves to this Light which
is the stuff of which we are created, we will increasingly
be aware of our total unity with Spirit. And as we do
so, we will undoubtedly recognize that letting go is
one of the most (if not the most) loving, compassionate
things we can do. From the perspective of this oneness,
letting go and embracing are identical.
During
this time of the year when we experience the most darkness,
it is apropos that we celebrate the eight day Festival
of Lights (Hanukkah of which we are in the midst currently)
and the twelve days of Christmas. Both remind us of
our origins – born from and into the Light, the
Light that is an integral part of us. A total of forty-four
(44) candles are lit during the eight days of Hanukkah.
Four plus four is eight; eight days of Hanukkah; a sideways
eight is the symbol for infinity. We know that an infinite
number of candles can be lit from a single one.
May
you be blessed with the divine wisdom of “gnosting”
when to let go and when to embrace, and the enlightened
understanding of how to do so. May you be blessed this
holiday season as well with the limitless potential
that Light holds for each one of us – true blessings
of Joy, Love and Peace – Shalom.
